Overview

Arthur Athan is an Senior Associate Lawyer and Parenting Coordinator at Maeve O’Brien & Associates.

He is a diligent, empathetic and pragmatic Family Lawyer. Arthur takes pride in providing clients with strategic advice, guidance, direction and support for their unique family or relationship situation. Taking  a practical approach to issues following separation, enables Arthur’s clients to focus on achieving realistic, pragmatic outcomes.

Arthur has developed a broad professional network that assists in building an effective support team for his clients. Arthur’s background in languages and cultural studies allows him to assist clients from multicultural backgrounds with flexibility and sensitivity.

Working exclusively in Family Law since his admission, Arthur has previously worked at several boutique suburban and Melbourne CBD family law firms.

Areas of expertise

Arthur assists clients with all aspects of their Family Law matter, including complex asset pools (trusts and multiple entities), parental alienation, child relocation, domestic violence, and child support.

He has a passion for assisting clients involved in Family Law litigation. He regularly appears for clients in Mediations (including Family Dispute Resolution conferences) and procedural hearings, whilst providing high levels of support through close relationships with experienced Counsel.

He also has a special interest in assisting parents to pursue ongoing dispute resolution after separation – both in and out of the Court context. As a qualified Parenting Coordinator, Arthur helps separated parents implement parenting Orders or agreements reached, whilst helping them to build robust co-parenting or parallel parenting relationships.

Arthur also assists clients with the preparation of and execution of Wills, giving thorough advice, especially in light of a relationship breakdown.

Recognition

Arthur was awarded a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), a Bachelor of Music (BMus) and a Diploma of Languages (Indonesian) from Monash University. He obtained his Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the College of Law. Arthur has completed Parenting Coordination Training with Parenting Coordination Australia.

Away from the law, Arthur is an accomplished concert pianist, having achieved LMusA and AMusA (Dist) diplomas and having had success at piano competitions in Australia and overseas.
